Is it permissible to bear virtual The Holy Quran on mobile Phone as we keep it in the back or front pockets of pants?<\/strong>
\nPraise be to Allah.
\nIt is permissible to put the Holy Quran on mobile phones, but it should be in the
\n\u2018Uthmaani script, unless that is not possible, in which case it is permissible to use a different one.
\nThere is nothing wrong with carrying The Holy Quran and putting it in one’s pocket,
\nin pants, or other clothes, so long as it is protected against tearing or mishandling.
\nIt says in Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa\u2019imah (4\/60): One of us carries The Holy Quran in
\nhis pocket, and he may enter the washroom carrying it. What is the ruling on that? please advise us.
\nAnswer: Carrying the\u00a0Holy Quran in one’s pocket is permissible, but it is not
\npermissible for a person to enter the washroom carrying a Mushaf; rather he
\nshould put the Mushaf in a suitable place, out of respect and veneration for the
\nBook of Allah. But if he has no choice but to take it in with him, for fear that it
\nmay be stolen if he leaves it outside, then it is permissible for him to take it in with him, out of necessity. End quote.
\nBut if the Mushaf is carried in the back pocket of one’s pants,<\/p>\n

will lead to sitting on the Mushaf when a person wants to sit down,
\nthen it is not permissible in that case to put it in the back pocket.
\nThe least that can be said concerning that is that it is makrooh.
\nMore than one of the scholars stated clearly that
\nsomething less serious than that is haraam, namely putting the Mushaf beneath one’s head like a pillow.
\nAl-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
\nThe scholars unanimously agreed that it is obligatory to protect and respect
\nthe Mushaf.
\nOur companions and others said: … it is haraam to use it as a pillow; using
\nany book of knowledge as a pillow is haraam. End quote.
\nAl-Tabyeen fi Adaab Hamalat al-Qur\u2019aan (128); see also al-Burhaan fi \u2018Uloom al-
\nQur\u2019aan by al-Zarkashi (1\/478)
\nIbn Muflih (May Allah have mercy on him) said:
\nIt is makruh to use the Mushaf as a pillow. This was stated by Ibn Tameem,
\nwho mentioned it in al-Ri\u2019aayah. Bakr ibn Muhammad said: Abu \u2018Abdullah said
\nit is makruh to place the Mushaf beneath one’s head and sleep on it. Al-Qaadi
\nsaid: Rather that is makruh because it is humiliating it and failing to respect it, as he is treating it like any other object.
\nIbn Hamdaan favored the view that it is haraam and stated that definitively in
\nal-Mughni and al-Sharh. The same applies to all books of knowledge, if they contain Qur\u2019aan, otherwise it is only makruh.<\/p>\n

Ibn \u2018Abd al-Qawiy says in his book Majma\u2019 al-Bahrayn: It is haraam to recline on
\nthe Mushaf and the books of hadith and on anything in which there is any Quran, according to consensus. End quote
